Saturday Morning
All I need
right now. Dawn
and a silent hung over
panoramic.
My tendons ache for coffee.
4 am bars give way to
bagel deliveries
and the warm scent
of Blommer's semi-sweet chocolate.
My favorite time
when not asleep.
I own the Wells Street Bridge.
And my castles--Sears, Trib, & Sun
tell the world below
there will be no work done today.
Be at rest with me,
Chicago.
Wake only when jostled
and scold any bright eyed
intentions.

The photograph was taken on the Kinzie Street bridge looking south onto Chicago's world famous cityscape. I wrote the poem on one of my regular El train rides very early on a Saturday morning. The image and the poem conveys a longing for all the bustling of a city to ease up and take a breather.
